Best Ski Resort Study 2020 – Gurgl ski area among top 10

Best Ski Resort Study 2020

9th among 55 top ski resorts

As part of the Best Ski Resort 2020 study conducted by the University of Innsbruck and Mountain Management Consulting, winter sports enthusiasts were asked to answer questions about guest satisfaction in the Gurgl-Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski region. The result was astounding: Gurgl achieved 9th place in the medium-sized ski areas classification. A total of 55 top ski areas in the Alpine region were selected to take part in this study.

39,795 skiers and snowboarders were canvassed and decided in favour of the Gurgl ski area in over 20 categories. This is a great success because ‘the distinctions awarded as a result of the study are intended to honour the efforts and excellent performance of each individual region, as well as promote their continuous development,’ explains the author of the study, Michael Partel, about Best Ski Resort’s extensive ski area survey. The Gurgl ski area scored particularly well in the price-performance ratio category, a major factor in the choice of skiing holiday destination.

Best Ski Resort Study methodology and procedures

Every two years, Mountain Management Consulting and the University of Innsbruck run a study to determine the best ski resorts in the Alpine region. Their poll is one of the most significant studies in the Alps, as the scores are collected in the field by means of questionnaires. This allows the expectations, experiences and holiday perceptions of subjects to be accurately projected.

Selection criteria for participation

  • Profile and size of ski area
  • Regional importance
  • Number of nights

Guests can award between 1 and 10 points in each of the Best Ski Resort Study’s categories. The results of the study provide a guide to consumers as well as contributing to quality improvement and product development in the ski regions.
